After days on the road, the interior of your commercial truck probably could use a little attention. Sure, you take good care of the exterior maintenance on your truck, but now it’s time to look over the inside and tidy things up. No one really likes driving in a dirty, sticky, smelly cab, and what’s more, letting filth pile up can even result in a pest infestation or permanent damage to the cab’s interior.

So how do you keep your cab clean? K. Neal Truck and Bus Center, with four locations throughout Maryland and Virginia, is your local commercial truck dealer, serving Lorton, VA, and Gaithersburg and Hyattsville, MD. Here are four easy ways you can tidy up the inside of your commercial truck.

1. Remove Trash

Trash and recycling can build up very quickly when you’re on the road; cans, bottles, receipts, napkins and food wrappers may be littering the floor of your cab and it’s time to pick them all up. Get a trash bag and a paper bag to sort out recycling from trash and bag it all up. Keeping a small trash container in your cab that you empty at gas stations or rest stops can prevent trash from building up in the first place.

2. Vacuum Often

Keep a small handheld vacuum cleaner in your cab that you can plug in at home or at work to vacuum out the crumbs, leaves and other debris from your cab. Take out floor mats and shake them; hose them off if needed and allow them to dry before placing them back in the cab.

3. Wipe Down Dashboard

The dash on your commercial truck can get pretty gross. Using bleach wipes or a paper towel and spray cleaner (test both of these on an inconspicuous area to make sure they don’t remove paint or degrade the plastic), you can wipe down the console and steering wheel to remove germs and grime. Avoid cleaners that leave a shine on the dashboard, as this can cause glare while you’re driving.

4. Clean Glass

Dirty glass isn’t just unsightly; it can also be a safety hazard. Your rearview mirrors, your windows and your windshield are how you keep tabs on the traffic around you, so you need to keep them wiped down. Use newspaper and vinegar or paper towels and a glass cleaning spray to clean the mirrors and interior of your windows and windshield to remove all streaks. Refill your windshield-wiper fluid regularly and make sure to replace your wiper blades when they’re worn down.
